The Subject Resource Series is one of several series of guides produced by the staff of the Library for the students and faculty of the New England Institute of Technology. These guides provide descriptions of the basic resources available at the Library. Keyed to broad topics, they are intended to be a starting point and not comprehensive handbooks to all of the resources in a subject area. Whether you decide to search in-depth or browse the collection, the information included here will help point out a variety of resources related to the subjects listed on the left. Print copies of these guides are available in the Periodicals Room of the Library.
Since the guides
are organized by general subject area, you may need the information from more
than one to cover the topics that make up your program of study. Please consult
the list below to determine which guides
will be the most useful.
Please remember that if you have any questions or need assistance, do not hesitate
to ask any Library staff member. We are always available to provide assistance.
Located in the Periodicals and Reference Rooms on the upper floor of the Library, the periodicals collection at New England Tech covers a wide range of subjects. Periodicals (a term often used interchangeably with magazines or journals) are publications issued multiple times per year. The Library subscribes to general-interest magazines as well as technical and scholarly journals. A list of paper and microfilm subscriptions located at the Library is included in the Periodical Holdings List, available in various locations throughout the Library and through this website. The first part of the Periodical Holdings List includes the physical location of the print subscriptions in the Library and whether or not back issues are available in bound format, on microfilm, online, or any combination of the three. The second part of the Periodical Holdings List (located in print copies in the Library and available at the EBSCOhost website) includes a list of titles available online through EBSCOhost Academic Search Elite, Business Source Elite, and Health Source Plus.
Current issues of print periodicals are shelved alphabetically in the Periodicals Room on the second floor of the Library, microfilm is located in the microfilm cabinet in the Reference Room, unclassified bound volumes are shelved in the Reference Room, and classified titles are shelved in the lower floor stacks with the circulating collection.
Click on the subject of your choice on the list to the left and click on "Periodicals" in the Contents list to view a list of the print periodicals available in the Library that are likely to include the most information about the guide's topic.

Indexes" in the Contents to view a list of the indexes available in the Library

Browsing
the Collection
The book and media collections are organized according to
the Library of Congress classification system. This classification system is
a series of letters and numbers used to locate materials on the library's shelves.
These numbers are found in the online catalog below the authors and titles in
the results list produced by a search, on the right of the Labeled Display screen
for a specific title, and as call numbers on the spine of each book or media
program.
Click on the subject of your choice on the list to the left and click on "Browsing the Collection" in the Contents list to view a list of the Library of Congress Classification areas available in the Library that are likely to include the most information about the guide's topic. The classification number is included as a "call number" on the spine label of each item.

Internet
Search Tips
Search engines are used to locate websites and documents
on the Internet. Google
is recommended as the primary search engine, but many others are available.
If you are using Google and cannot find what you are looking for, try a few
other engines that can be found on the web page for Search
Engines. Some search engines filter through a
number of other search engines simultaneously.
