requested by another patron. Books can be renewed three
ways:
1.
In person at the Circulation Desk.

I borrow textbooks from the Library?
Yes

textbooks for every class. However, ALL textbooks for Liberal
Arts courses are purchased and automatically placed on Reserve

can be used in the Library.
The Library owns some technical
textbooks. To determine what the Library has in its collection,
consult the Online

Online Catalog from the navigation bar.]

The
Library computers in the Reference area are for Research

available in the Library?

the articles or books.
The NEIT Library is part of an international interlibrary
loan network that allows us access to local, regional, national
and international loan programs.
- Are
there any resources available for me to use from home?
Yes.
There are excellent source materials that can be used outside
the library.
1. Library Website
The Library
Homepage [http://library.neit.edu] contains
a wealth of searchable links to technical and general resources.
Website content includes numerous annotated subject-specific
links, online research and writing guides as well as web
pages for specific NEIT communities such as faculty, foreign
students and new students. All pages are continually updated
for new resources and for outdated content.
2.
Online Catalog

print materials such as books and periodicals and is accessible
on or off-campus. From the Library

Use
the library
With a wealth of resources -- both print and electronic,
the Library can be a complex place.
First, any of the Librarians on duty will be happy to
give you a tour or answer your questions, if your class
does not come in as a group. Read through the FAQs
and How do I? sections
to see if any of your questions are answered. If not,
come into the Library and get help. Or call
or email
to get your questions answered.
- Get
a library card
Stop by the Circulation Desk -- directly ahead when
you enter the Library. With the information on your Student
ID, the Circulation Department will create a record for you
so you can take advantage of all the library services. Be sure
to ask for a PIN if you want to renew books or check your record
online.
- Find
a book
Search the
Online
Catalog. There is no print version available of
the Library's holdings. The Online Catalog includes
print materials such as books and periodicals (publications
such as journals, newspapers, magazines, serials) and is accessible
on the Internet from any computer anywhere -- no password required.
From the Library
Homepage [http://library.neit.edu], choose Online
Catalog on the navigation bar.
You
can search by title, author or subject.
After you locate the book that you want -- you will
need to write down the Location of the book,
called the Call Number -- two letters followed by a series of
numbers. This is the Library
of Congress Classification System that codes where
the book is shelved in the library. Any staff
member can show you how to find the book. Learn about
Call Numbers.
- Find
a newspaper
Finding a newspaper is similar to finding a book, so follow
the directions
above. The newspapers are located at the top of the stairs on
the second floor. Some newspapers are available electronically
through our database sources. If there is electronic access
through one of our subscriptions, it will be noted in the catalog
record.
- Find
an article
Articles
from scholarly journals, magazines or newspapers can be found
by using one or more of several sources depending on the particular
publication. Finding an article can be easy OR not so easy because
there are lots of variables such as which year?, which issue?,
from what source?, etc. Be sure to ask the Reference Librarian
for help in guiding you through the search process. The library
has a new research tool called Serials
Solutions to help locate particular serials publications.
Articles are located in:
1) Periodicals that the library owns.
2) Full-text databases such as EBSCO
3) Interlibrary loan. If the library does not own a publication,
we can send for the article from another academic library or
institution.
- Write
a research paper
The Research
Paper Format [from the Library
homepage, http://library.neit.edu, choose Guide
& Tutorials] page gives an overall account of creating
and constructing a research paper including formatting and editing
the paper, making reference citations, and links for further
study.

a resume
See Resume Preparation
Tips [from the Library
homepage, http://library.neit.edu, choose Student
Resources.]

about library policies
Learn a lot about the library and its policies, hours, Mission
Statement and more on the Library
