The Academic Skills Center (ASC) provides a wide variety of services on campus and on their website that can help you discover your learning style and help you to develop good study strategies. In the ASC, you can brush up on your learning skills if you've been out of school for while, learn some study skills, improve your reading, speaking, writing and listening skills. Some of these skills are taught in developmental and enrichment classes and in workshops, others are available through one-on-one tutoring. Stop in and see how the helpful staff at the ASC can help you to become a better learner.

What's Available at the Academic Skills Center's website?


•under READING, you'll find strategies for improving your reading, with links to other sites with helpful information

•under WRITING, you'll find information on writing a summary and an example of a term paper in APA (American Psychological Association) format

•under STUDY SKILLS, you'll find a number of other interesting links that provide valuable information on these topics:

•time management – some quick tips on managing your time

•learning goals – information on forming and establishing learning goals

•note taking – links to sites related to taking notes efficiently and studying from those notes

•test tips – effective strategies to prepare for and take tests

•learning styles – links to in-depth information about learning styles, websites on developing your intelligences, about Howard Gardner and his theory of multiple intelligences as well as an online learning style inventory

•reflective worksheet – a worksheet help you summarize what you learned in this chapter and at the ASC website


On the ASC website, you can learn more about learning styles by following links to a number of different sites. Clicking on the Reading/Writing/Study Skills button leads you to a number of choices tailored to your interests and abilities. Exploring the links at this website can supply you with interesting information, enjoyable and enlightening self-tests and useful tips and strategies to improve the way you learn. Whether in person or online, the Academic Skills Center is available to help.
