Part
A :
The Introduction, presented through English I classes,
introduces the student to the concepts of civic responsibility,
social issues, and personal values.
Part B:
STUDENT
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR CE101 CREDIT:
a) Students who have already participated in an activity
should submit the essay and documentation sheet to Arlene
Potvin.
REGISTRATION FOR CE101 CREDIT:
a) Send a request to apotvin@neit.edu
using your NEIT student e-mail account; include your tech
and your ID number.
b) You may register through week eight (8) of any quarter.
c) Students may also register in person at the Registrar’s
Office.
d) Web on-line registration—week 1 only.
Part
C:
Performance
of Community Project, during which each student will become
involved in a project or activity which addresses an actual
community need. The type of project chosen should be personally
meaningful and designed to meet the unique skills and
interests of each student. Student involvement is about
15 hours of activity.
Part
D:
Submission of a three-paragraph Essay
highlighting the community experience. The essay
and documentation of
community project is submitted together to the Feinstein
Office as soon as possible.

E:
EVALUATION
CRITERIA / GRADING POLICY
Students who complete the requirements of Community Enrichment
CE 101 will receive an “S” for satisfactory.
One additional credit will appear on students’ transcript.
1. Documentation of performance
of 15 hours of community-based volunteerism (Documentation
Form attached), and;
2. Submission of a Summary
reflecting the community experience written in the format
prescribed in the Summary guidelines.
3. CE 101 credit is awarded only once during a students
AS level course work.
At the culmination of Community Enrichment
/ CE 101,
the student will be able to:
-
identify
a sense of social responsibility within the context
of the larger community;
-
describe a community activity/project and its impact
on society;
-
identify personal values as a result of personal, moral,
and social development;
-
demonstrate respect for the value of all people, regardless
of individual diversity.
III.
Resources
- The
Course Syllabus (this document) contains all information
and documents necessary for completion of Community Enrichment/
CE 101.

A community placement Resource List is available through
the Feinstein
Enriching America office in the Student Lounge - Room 104,
CT Bldg.
-
Specific projects, activities, and requests from community
organizations are
posted regularly on the Feinstein bulletin board (first
floor CT Bldg.)
- The
Rhode Island Directory of Human Service Agencies is available
at the
NEIT Library for further information on placement sites.
IV.
Attendance Policy
Attendance is required at the Introduction
to Community Enrichment presentation, delivered through
English I classes, OR in the CE101 independent study class,
in order to prepare the student with the necessary information
to complete the program.
*Any
student who misses the introduction or has difficulty completing
the required hours needs to contact Arlene Potvin, Coordinator
of the Feinstein Enriching America Program, to arrange a
satisfactory plan for completion.
V.
Evaluation Criteria/ Grading Policy
Students
who complete the requirements of Community Enrichment/ CE
101 will receive a "P" grade for PASS and are
then eligible for graduation. An "IPR" grade,
for IN PROGRESS, will appear on the student's transcript
until the course requirements are met satisfactorily. Students
must satisfy the following requirements in order to receive
a PASS grade:
1.
Attendance at the one-session Introduction to Community
Enrichment presentation;
2. Documentation of performance
of 15 hours of community-based volunteerism and;
3. Submission of an Essay
reflecting the community experience, and written in the
format prescribed in the Essay
guidelines.
VI.
Instructor Requirements
Arlene Potvin, Coordinator
of the Feinstein Enriching America Program,
is available in the Student Lounge, 1st floor of the CT
(Center for Technology Bldg.), on M, T, & W 7:30 to
12:30 and TH 10 – 2. Office hours will be flexible
due to classroom presentation requirements of CE 101 materials.
Current, on campus and on-going community events and projects
are posted on the Feinstein bulletin board on the first
floor of the CT building as a resource for all students.
All students are encouraged to discuss community ideas and
activities with the Coordinator of the program. Pre-approval
for existing or non-traditional activities must be obtained
through the program's Coordinator prior to engaging in the
activity or project. All Documentation of Community project
forms and written Essays must be submitted directly to the
Coordinator of the Feinstein Enriching America Program,
Located in the Students Lounge, 1st floor of the CT Bldg.
